Fair Trade Impact Exploration

Alternative Winter or Spring Break in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, or Panama

General Information
Community Collaborations Fair Trade Impact Exploration projects visit fair trade cooperatives and communities in producer countries. Volunteers meet with fair trade farmers and artisans to explore the impact of fair trade policies and complete projects that benefit the communities. Projects in Costa Rica, Nicaragua,and Guatemala focus on Fair Trade Coffee, the Panama Project is focused on Fair Trade Cocoa.

Program Schedule

  • Saturday Morning: Arrive International Airport
  • Sunday : Orientation, Fair Trade Meeting, Dinner with speaker from Fair Trade Coop
  • Monday: Transfer to Coffee Community, Meeting with Growers
  • Tuesday - Thursday- Coffee Community Projects
  • Friday- Recreation Activity
  • Saturday- Transfer to International Airport (end of program)

Requirements

  • Passport
  • Signed volunteer agreement
  • Be in good physical condition to walk 5 to 10 miles
  • No abuse of illegal drugs; no consumption of alcohol during working hours or abuse of alcohol at any time
  • Service fee paid
  • At least of 16 years old

Accommodations
Volunteers will stay volunteer facilities that have been inspected and approved by CCI. In order to be approved facilities must have the following;

  • Safe and clean sleeping areas
  • Clean and functional bathroom facilities
  • Showers
  • Sanitary food services
  • Access to medical support
  • Bathroom Facilities
  • Fresh water

Recreation Activity
Each Fair Trade Exploration project includes a recreational opportunity that supports local sustainable tourism businesses who provide opportunities for a variety of activities such as rainforest hiking, canopy tours, trips to waterfalls,volcano trips, beach trips, and horseback riding.

Service Program Fee
The program service fee of $825 covers:

  • All lodging
  • All meals
  • All in-country transportation
  • All recreational activities
  • In-country bilingual coordinator
