Tortuguero Ecology and Community Development - Costa Rica
Program Description
The Tortuguero Project takes place in the area one of Costa Rica's most popular and beautiful National Parks. The Pueblo of San Francisco is a small community with a two room school house accessable by boat. The community hopes to develop a sustainable economic base by introducing micro enterprise tourism businesses run by local families. Plans include improvements to the area trail system and building butterfly gardens. Volunteers will help to get these projects up and running as well as support the work of Cano Palma Biological Station.
Accommodation
Tortuguero participants will stay at the Cano Palma field station with all the simple comforts of home including a large kitchen and dining hall, screened-in dormitories with bunk beds, a library and study area, showers and bathrooms are located in separate out buildings.

Rest and Recreation
Tortuguero National Park has abundant wildlife including three species of monkeys and three kinds of sea turtles. Participants will spend recreation time exploring the park and enjoying local beaches.
Service Program Fee
The One Week Program Fee is $696.00 per person the Two Week Program Fee is $1296.00 per person. This includes all in country transportation, insurance, accommodations, meals, bilingual guide, tools and equipment, project coordination, mid program recreation activities. (International airfare is not included.)
