Sea Turtle Station Alternative Winter or Spring Break in Costa Rica

General Information

Community Collaborations Sea Turtle Preservation Projects will provide badly needed volunteers to conservation groups in Costa Rica. There are several locations for these projects on the Carribean coast.

Program Schedule

  • Saturday Morning: Arrive Costa Rica AM/Transfer to Sea Turtle Station
  • Sunday - Wednesday: Turtle Station Projects
  • Thursday morning: Canopy Tour
  • Thursday afternoon: Puerto Viejo visit ANAI office
  • Thursday evening: Dinner and overnight in Puerto Viejo
  • Friday morning: Beach activities
  • Friday afternoon: Transfer and overnight in Heredia
  • Saturday: Return flight to USA

Requirements

  • Passport
  • Signed volunteer agreement
  • Be in good physical condition to walk 5 to 10 miles
  • No severe eyesight problems
  • No abuse of illegal drugs; no consumption of alcohol during working hours or abuse of alcohol at any time
  • Service fee paid
  • At least of 16 years old

Accommodations

Volunteers will stay volunteer facilities that have been inspected and approved by CCI. In order to be approved facilities must have the following;

  • Safe and clean sleeping areas
  • Clean and functional bathroom facilities
  • Hot showers
  • Sanitary food services
  • Access to medical support
  • Bathroom Facilities
  • Onsite communications
  • Electricity
  • Fresh water

Rest and Recreation

All sea turtle projects are located on the beach and provide ample opportunities for a variety of beach activities such as snorkeling and boogie boarding. Other activities include rainforest hiking, canopy tours, manatee station, beach trips, and horseback riding. The recreational trip to Peurto Viejo is included in the program fee.

Service Program Fee

The program service fee of $725.00 covers:

  • All lodging
  • All meals
  • All in-country transportation
  • All recreational activities
  • In-country bi-lingual coordinator
  • Travel insurance (PDF)
